Quidditch is arguably the best part of the Harry Potter Universe. All RPGs want to play it, all RPGs have their own way, and some, unfortunately can never figure out their own way. This is, I like to think, a solution to those that have none pertaining to the dilemma of not having Quidditch at their game. Of course, the system presented here is long-winded and, at a glance, complex. However, once the basics are realised as a simple rolling of the dice, the rest is just fun times. The system itself is based on luck, rather than actual character skill. And while that may be off-putting, let's take a moment and try to figure out how many sports out there are solely based on skill. … Finished? Yeah, me too. There are, of course, a few flaws in that sometimes people like to cheat, and while this system is virtually bug free, human nature will also play a significant part in deciding not only the outcome of your finished game, but the overall fun factor. Don't let that deter you, however, some of the best character moments and role-play (for me) have come from this system as both a playing character as well as a spectator. All you need for this system is a couple of forums, 16 active players, 1-4 twenty-sided dice and a love for the game. If you can manage that, you too can enjoy this working Quidditch system. It is advised that, despite whether you want to actually play, referee, commentate or simply watch (as an in-game spectator) a game, that you read everything presented here. There are little fiddly bits in regards to refereeing, both in and out of character, and playing, so learning and putting them to use is a very good thing for all those around. That said, get to reading. |
